Tuesday morning we went to the fitness center with the kids and ended up learning about "nutrition." It wasn't the best time at the fitness center, but it was a chunk of time that we didn't have to program for, so it worked. Then we went to the library. OH! And on monday, one of the more "troublesome" kids that me and Kate had had was in the Hip Hop room and caused Sunny a LOT of trouble. And although I had at first strongly strongly disliked this kid (the same kid who got his foot caught on the slide, "J"), I absolutely LOVE him now. And so does Kate. And since Amanda hated him for giving her so much trouble, me and Kate got him back in our room. YAY!!! And he behaved..... for the most part. Can't say the same for the kid who didn't take his "medication" that day....
Then, we went to the pool, where the librarians had pizza and cake for the end of the summer program party. There were all these pool toys set out, and the kids were driving me INSANE. Every 2 seconds someone would say "Miss Monsoon!!! He took that toy from me!!!" It didn't help that I really wanted pizza, but I had to stay in the pool because practically all the other counselors were still eating their pizza while all the kids had already finished. Now, I don't blame them, because I would probably be doing the same thing if I had pizza, but there really needed to be more counselors in the water, because I just couldn't deal with all the kids by myself. So I asked some of them to get in the water, and they did. But by that time I was super stressed. And then, this really annoying girl in my group started pouting because someone "pushed" her off the floaty. Now, I had seen the whole thing, so I know she basically just fell off, and the whole point of the floaty was to try to stay on. So I literally had a 10 minute talk with her that got absolutely nowhere, because no matter what I would say, she would answer it with "But they were pushing me!!!" So then Kate came over (because her Cloudy senses told her that I was getting VERY frustrated) and sent the girl to sit out for a while. Then they blew the whistles and it was time for cake, and I went up to Kate and said "I seriously need a mental vacation. Right now." And Kate knew I was serious, so she sent me over to get a piece of cake and to relax. Then when I was going to sit down with my cake, Kate called my name, and I turned and my plate tipped and the cake went SPLAT. And that's when I had my mental breakdown. It was tragic. I mean, when your cake falls on the floor, it's a big deal.
But I was fine after Kate got me another piece of cake, so it was okay.
After camp on tuesday, I stopped at the NEX to get my parents some navy shirts... since they weren't happy with the other ones i got them... Just kidding! Love you guys! Then I packed all tuesday night. That was fun. And I am still not finished....
Anywho, Wednesday was Isla Magica, meaning an amusement park. Thankfully, this particular field trip takes up the whole day, so there was no programming necessary. I didn't go on the log ride with my kids, but I went on the mini roller coaster, the carousel, the rapids ride, and the swings (which made me OOBER dizzy). It was SO HOT there, though. I was sweating profusely. (Speaking of which, today I was sweating so much I had to change my shirt halfway through the day!!!)
After work on wednesday, ms. Sol (the SAC "receptionist") made us yummy asian food, and I finally got some rice with ketchup!!! WOOT WOOT!!! Then we had a Camp A meeting, where we got our most likely lists. Basically, we had all submitted ideas for "most likelys" for each person. The ones for me fit perfectly. I was most likely to: 1. Give you a weird look 2. Exchange my blood for ketchup and 3. Sleep through the apocalypse. Fits me right??? Then we saw an AWESOME camp slideshow that our PC put together. It was hilarious. (we also had to deal with a little drama about dessertfest, in which the girls who had been arguing all summer NOT to wear the camp uniforms, up and decided that they wanted to wear them to dessertfest instead of dressing up. I was like, HECK NO. I have a new dress, and I want to wear it!!!)
Thursday (today) was fun, although this was obviously a crazy day, by which I mean the kids were INSANE (more than usual). And we had a whole bunch of stuff we were supposed to be doing too, like getting ready for dessertfest. Yeah, well, that didn't really happen. Anyways, we went to the fitness center to another hip hop class with the German lady, and that went pretty well. I don't like this dance as much, but it definitely goes with the music much better. Then we went to the pool, and I had to save the little girl who doesn't know her limits again, because she was swimming and got tired. She was holding onto the lane line and couldn't let go she was so tired. Crazy kid.
After camp was dessertfest, and that was pretty awesome. We got to see a few of our kids outside of camp, and the little-uns (from CDC) came too. We did a Blitz for the parents (meaning we sang songs) which didn't go as well as it could have, but hey, it was fun. Then each group from the SAC did their own skit. Super Dupers did the bubblegum skit (which no one understood but it was still cute) and then we did the tree monkey skit (which is actually not an "official" camp adventure skit since I stole it from Doyle, but the kids chose it and the parents liked it because it was silly), then Hip Hop did purple stew, and Black pearl did the reporter skit.
My skit was SO embarrassing, because I was supposed to be in charge of the microphone, and then it wasn't working and Jon goes "turn it on!" Woops. So i did, and then I told the kids (forgetting I was holding the mike) to move the line back, and it was REALLY loud. Woops again. But then I had to move the line forward again because I had moved them too far back and the speakers were making those icky squeaking noises. Woops. And then towards the end the mike cut out all together. Apparently, it stopped working (I swear i didn't do it!) and we didn't have a mike for the rest of the time. But the skit was so funny because the kids didn't quite understand the concept. The point is that the kids in the line (one at a time) do something to break the rules, and then the tree monkeys come get them. Well, instead of breaking rules, they just looked at the next person in line and said "I don't like your shoes (for example) because they are (insert reason)" and the person responded "That's not very nice. I am going to call the tree monkeys." It was funny, though, because one girl who was wearing all pink said she didnt like another girls shoes because they were pink, and then someone insulted someone's hair, and then someone's pants. It was really random.
And this was my favorite part. At the very end, I realized we hadn't really gone over what the very last person in line was supposed to do. It ended up being our one British kid (with the CUTEST accent ever). And he didn't know what to do, so since I was already there (I had been holding the mike for them when it was still working), I stepped up and prompted him. I said, "Do you like my dress?" wanting him to answer "It's ugly" or something. But he goes, "yes" in his cute little accent and then hugged me. It was the CUTEST thing EVER. (I know I said cute like 20 times in this paragraph, but it's true). It was so sweet. And we just ended the skit right there. We told Jon later that the last part hadn't been planned, and he was totally surprised. He had thought it was part of the skit.
Anyways, after the skits, we finally revealed our names!!!! We did it using the Telephone song (more compliments to Camp Doyle... and to me for introducing it this summer muhaahahahahha). We all had little posters with our camp names on one side and our real names on the other, then we said "Hey (insert real name)" and waited for the person to respond so the kids would know who it was. The kids LOVED it. They were flipping out. They were surprised to hear the name Allison, but they actually all guessed it was me. They had thought my name was Rachel all summer, though.
then we did closing and that was....uh....emotional. At first it was fine. But then the one girl who I swim with all the time at the pool (the one who doesn't know her limits) came over to me and was hanging on my dress. She looked up at me all teary eyed and goes "I'm gonna miss you!" And then she keeps hanging on me and just starts SOBBING!!! She hung on me like that for the next 10 minutes and finally let go when her neighbor came over to get her (her parents apparently weren't there). But her neighbor told me that she has had a really hard summer because she just got here (at the Rota base) this summer, and it had been a lot of change for her. I think she was having family problems too, but I felt so bad for her. And she was still bawling. I'm going to miss her, too!
And then Holli started crying (her favorite kids were there) and that just set everyone off. Andy tried to end Closing with a short thank you speech to the parents, but he couldn't do it, and I didn't really know why until Jon went up and hugged him. It was kinda funny, but Andy was crying. There was another kid who cried that I really wasn't expecting, too. This kid ("Z") that likes to act all tough started crying and couldn't stop. His dad works at CDC, so everyone knows and loves him and his 2 brothers. They are the cutest little boys. The 2 oldest have these little mohawks and the youngest looks just like them (just without the mohawk). Z is 9, X is 3 or 4, and Y is 2. (Btw, I am not just coming up with letters, those are actually the first letters of their names since I am not allowed to actually write their names). Anyway, they had everyone crying.... except me. I am proud to say that I didn't cry once! I'll admit my eyes got a little watery, but not a tear fell. I doubt I will be able to maintain myself tomorrow though....
Btw, today we heard from the kids that one of the sweetest, most talkative, funniest little boy had gotten hit by a car!!! They said he broke his arm, and we were all worried. We saw him after dessertfest though (his house was right down the street) and he seemed fine. He had a bandage on his arm, but he was as hyper as usual. He told us how he got hit though, and he said it was super scary, and I was like "I bet." He said he was under the car and had to army crawl out. It was just scary to think about. I still can't believe that he really got hit by a car.
Anyways, last day of camp tomorrow. So sad =( I am excited to go home, but I know i will miss my kids a whole lot. And I will miss spain, and kate, and holli, and jenn, and jon. I won't miss the drama, though. Just everything else! I probably won't be back online till i get home, so see you then!!! Maybe I can show you guys all my pics then!!! (There are TONS.)
