OH, and last week was fourth of july week. And lemme just say, the kids LOVED my hat. Anyway, on thursday, we worked all day, then we had an hour to get ready for the fourth of july festival thing. We didn't know exactly what we were in for, just that we had been assigned to work arts and crafts, and now we all had to work in the bounce houses (I usually call them jumpy-jumps, but no one ever knows what I'm talking about...). We got there, and there were to big blow up things. A giant obstacle course one that you can race through, and then a dinosaur one that was very similar, just not a racing one. First I worked the race course, which actually stunk because for most of the time, I had to work the start and deal with all the whiny kids who absolutely REFUSED to be patient when waiting their turn. I did that for about an hour and a half when we finally rotated positions.
Btw, there were 4 people per bounce house, on the race course there was a person at the start, a person in the middle (to tell the start person when the kids got far enough through to let the next 2 go), and 2 people on top of the giant slide (to make sure the kids don't kill each other going down the slide).
Anyways, so I got rotated up to the top of the slide. And let me just say, it was a big slide. And I never really liked bounce houses all that much (I have that perpetual fear that the air will go out and they will collapse on me), so when I got up to the top and the thing was swaying in the wind, I really wasn't too fond of my new position. I eventually got so dizzy that I had to sit down (hey, it was SCARY). And then i called for my PC to switch with me since he was on the ground (under the excuse that if he wanted to see the horse show, he could see if from the slide, which was true). But as soon as he started climbing up, the girl up on the slide went down, and I was like "WHAT?!? NO!!! I wanted to go down!!! Not her!!" But being the good sport that I am, I didn't say anything and just stuck it out. Well, that is, I stuck it out till I got this strange sinking feeling. I turned to my PC and we stared at each other for a couple seconds, until said "do you feel that?" And then I was gone. Screw the kids, I got off that thing as fast as I could, and refused to get back up there even after they got the air back in it.
After that, I got to work at the other bounce house, which was better. I just sat up on the little mini slide and helped all the cute little kids up. Some of those kids were WAY to young to be on that thing, though. This one baby had to sit on my lap until his parents found his sister to take him through the thing. He was really cute though. And some of the kids didn't speak english (and by "some" I mean a lot), so I finally got fed up with kids not listening to me and shouted "Wait! Wait! Espera!" and one of the girls I was talking to starts talking a hundred miles an hour to me in spanish saying that she spoke spanish and who knows what else. It was rather amusing....
Okay, so I know this blog is long, just bear with me. I am covering four days of stuff here.
So, the fam and the Graves came back to Rota and we hung out on the beach (and the Graves got lost and couldn't find the van and were running back, and it was really funny.... for me at least. I don't think they were very amused at the time). And then me and Kaitlyn got on the train (I'm not allowed to fly, so everyone else was flying to madrid). The train ride wasn't too bad, it was just the fact that when we got off, me and kait had to find our hotel. Kaitlyn was so worried about not looking like a tourist that she refused to pull out the map for longer than 2 seconds. So we ended up looking like complete tourists as we walked in circles about 5 times.
Oh, and when everyone was coming back from the airport on the Metro, Carly almost got pick-pocketed. Luckily, a nice lady pointed it out before anything was taken, but a lady definitely had her hand in Carly's purse. Luckily, nothing like that happened to me and Kait. We did see some prostitutes, though. One was wearing a pinkish dress and said "Hola, me llamo Fresa" in what I am sure she thought was a very sexy voice. I gotta say, Madrid is oober sketch. It's worth going to, just hold on to your purses.
Then, Sunday afternoon, my parents got me to the train station, and I got on the right train and everything all by my onesy!!! Aren't you all proud? I know I was. But then when I got off the train, I had to get a taxi back to base. And let me just say that every taxi driver I have ever seen has always been at least somewhat creepy. They are no different in Spain. All the taxi drivers waiting outside the station were pretty much creepos, and they all got mad at me for choosing the taxi I did. They said something about me in spanish (I don't know what because all I heard was "ella," which for those of you who don't know means "she", but they sure didn't sound happy). Luckily, though, I made it back to base. The taxi driver (after a very long conversation in which I tried to get him to understand that I didn't want to go to "el centro de Rota" but to the naval base) dropped me off right where I was supposed to be. I even beat my PC back! Yay!!! An overall successful weekend.
And today wasn't as bad as it should have been (since it's monday and all). It went relatively smoothly, except for the fact that one of our kids was throwing tantrums all day. He was having a BAD day. At one point, he was so pissed at me that he refused to eat lunch. Okay, well, that's not exactly how it happened, but he truly was pissed at me. It was kinda funny actually....
I think this is long enough. I'll go now. Next time you hear from me, I will have gone to the zoo with all the little kiddies. Wish me luck...
