So Friday was- for lack of a better word- HELL!!! I mean, ever heard that saying "thank god it's friday?" No. Not happening for me. The kids were seriously ten times crazier than they normally were. I was literally about to cry because they honestly would NOT listen to me, and my partner was dealing with this one kid that kept having behavioral problems practically every 5 minutes. My director had to come and help me out. Then we went bowling and they were a little better, but one kid asked me like 5o times if he could take my turn for bowling and I was like "NO." And if you think I am exaggerating about how horrible my kids were, after camp even the other counselors complained about my group. And they only had to deal with them for 20 minutes each!!! One of the counselors even said that my kids broke their ball, so they had to play a different game! Oh, kids.
Friday night we went out to eat in Rota, and we ate at this really cool place that had a lot of normal food. I got a club sandwich and it wuz yuuuuummmmmy!!! (Hey, I have tried the local food, and I desperately needed some comfort food.) Then on Saturday, I was forced to get up early so we could go to Cadiz. We had to be ready at 9 and left around 9:30, but then we went the absolute wrong way and walked in a humungous circle in order to get to the ferry dock. (Oh, and by "we" I mean me, Holli, Lauren, Jenn, Kate, Amanda, and Andy (our PC)). We made it on the ferry (luckily) and got to Cadiz around 11:45. Then began a very very very very very very long walk around the city. The pictures above are all from this little expedition. We saw a cathedral, a castle, an old Roman theater, and a lotta examples of awesome Spanish architecture (yes, Mom, I noticed the architecture). I ate some yummy mystery meat (the key is to not ask what it is...) and got disgustingly sweaty because it was soooo frickin HOT!!! I did get a popsicle, though....
We walked around for like 6 hours because the next ferry left at 6:30, and everybody was soo tired that we all fell asleep waiting for it (I almost fell out of my chair multiple times). I barely made it on the walk back to base I was soooo tired (and I had a blister!!!), and as soon as i got back to my room, I took a shower and totally passed out on my bed. I was then rudely awaken around 10:30 and was told that I was going out. I am actually glad I was forced into going becuz it was kinda fun. We went to an Irish bar (yes, and irish bar in spain) and got more sangria. I didn't get any, but I tried someone elses and it was better than last time. It was actually pretty good. I went and got some Ben and Jerrys (hehehehe) because the gelatto place was all crowded and stuff. Then we went back around 2.
And today I got to sleep in. YAYYYYYY!!! I definitely needed that. I didn't get up till like 12:30, and then we went to the beach in Rota at like 2 ish. I actually put sunscreen on good this time (or so I thought) and this time, all the guys came with us. It was me, Holli, Lauren, Kate, Jenn, Amanda, Jon, Brian, Bonnie, and Andy. The water was warmer and the waves were a lot bigger today, so we hung out in the water a lot. I got a little burnt (on my face too!!! wahhhhhh) but not as bad as last time. It was pretty relaxing, although I am a little worried about what tomorrow will be like. It will pretty much be the same kids, so hopefully they will behave better. I doubt it though.... Wish me luck!!!
Hi Allison. Your mom gave me your blog address so now I can follow you. My daughter failed to mention that you even had one! Tess spent Friday at Bethel Children's Center with preschoolers all day, but I think she had a better day than you did even though the kids she was with are much younger. Hang in there and think of all the stories you'll have to tell us when you get back! Love, Alicia
ReplyDeleteHey Allison-- its sooo gorgeous there!!! Seems like you're having a lot of fun. Too bad about the kids but I'm sure you'll learn how to take care of yourself and them just fine-- just think back to the dorm days when you stayed sane when all the other people were just crazy!!
