So this week is better than last week (thank God!!!). A few of the problem kids either didn't come to camp, or got changed to a different room. We still have the same basic group, but we gained a few and lost some. We have 16 kids in our room now, which is I think 2 more than last week, but it's still better. There is this one kid, though, that on the first day just wouldn't follow directions. He seemed like a good kid, but he just wouldn't listen. I went over to talk to him, and that's about the time I figured out that he didn't speak english..... I was really surprised that no one told me this minor detail. He speaks a little but not a lot, although I could understand him for the most part. Luckily, we have two other kids in the class now that are actually bilingual, so hopefully it will work out.

Monday was long, but Tuesday wasn't so bad because we went to the library and then the pool, except I really don't like swimming for 3 hours with the kids. Seriously, I could do one hour for sure. But 3 is pushing it. But yesterday I also found out about a parent that complained about our programming at camp (although the complaint was based in our room). I can't tell you the details, but basically the parent thought we were restricting the kid too much (which is semi-true, because we want the kids to do the activities we plan, and not just do whatever they want). So now we are changing are whole programming because of this complaint. I can understand the reasoning behind this, but it's going to make it waaaaaayyyy harder on the counselors if we actually do this. Oh, well. We'll see how it goes.
OH! And apparently last night was a big Spanish celebration for....uh....St John's Day? I think? Anyways, there was this big wooden structure of this poseidon looking dude (as you can see in the pics above) and then at midnight they set it on fire. I put all the pictures of it burning in a row, so you can see how it burned all the way down to the little stick in the last pic. It was really funny, because that huge thing burned in about the span of 2 minutes. Everyone was all crowded around it, and as soon as it was lit, everyone starts to back away really really fast because it was really hot!!! Then fireworks started going off. It was really cool. The celebrations were supposed to last all night, but since we had work the next day (and since that was already WAY past our bedtimes), we headed back and I went to sleep at about 1:30am. Which, btw, definitely didn't allow me enough sleep.
Then today we went on an all-day field trip to Isla Magica, a Spanish amusement park. We got in all our red field trip shirts (a nice change of pace from the usual white). It was a 1.5 hour bus ride, but they played a movie for the kids (although I definitely enjoyed it too) so it wasn't so bad. We took the kids around on the rides and stuff (thankfully I have younger kids so they can't go on the scary rides, although they did pick this indoor one that was kinda dark and creepy). It was kinda funny, though, because with my group, we had me and Kate (Miss Cloudy), and then two extra staff: Mr Twister (my PC) and Miss Tracy (the head staff at the center). They must know that our group is the craziest..... But what was funny was that even with all these staff, everyone was following me around. They must have assumed that I knew where I was going (HA!) although I have no idea why, but I was always the head of the line. So, basically, I am pretty sure I am not going to have a voice tomorrow. I have a scratchy throat, which is BAD because that means I am probably getting sick, which is OOBER lame because I was sick when I first got here (and I didn't have a voice then either).
But, point of the story is that everyone got back safely, I am SUUUPER tired and not feeling all that great, but that I went shopping and got oatmeal and popsicles (I tried to go yesterday but I forgot my pass AND my wallet), so all is right with the world!!!!
