So, it basically took forever to get here (or at least it just felt like it). I pulled an all-nighter so i could finish packing, and me and my dad finished loading stuff on my computer literally in the car ride to the airport (at 4 in the morning, btw). I made it through the airport without (much) incident, and met Jody, the girl from Chico, and Kaylee from San Diego State. I got an awesome seat on the plane (thanks to my loving mother who always thinks ahead). One six hour plane flight down, two more flights to go...
When that flight landed, we managed to find our next gate relatively easily (although we had to pass through security again). But then we forgot to check in, the people at the gate called our names out. How embarrassing, right? And then we almost missed the flight because all the announcements they made for it were in Spanish. But we didn't, so it's okay.
Oh, and Alex, this is for you. The kid behind me on the plane was with a group of kids (and they were VERY obnoxious the whole way, which was 6 hrs, I think) and she BLASTED lady gaga for a really long time. And then she was singing aloud to that one song with the "I'm a vegetarian" that Alex loves so much. Crazy kid.
We made it to Madrid and chillaxed for a few hours in uncomfortable plane seats. It was the 4 of us now (Tieandra from New Jersey joined us) and we had no idea where our gate was because it didn't show up on the departure boards yet. So we were just sitting and waiting (getting a bunch of stares for our sexy uniforms) and then we met 3 other peeps going to Rota. They had been told that the gate was Gate J7, so we went down there. But since there was no one there at the gate, I kept going back to check the departure boards just to be sure. And the gate number finally showed up as J37! Yes, I saved the day! (Not really, considering we would have figured it out eventually)
Anyway, and now we are here, and we got our rooms. They are pretty nice. Its a tiny kitchen with a fridge, microwave, and washer and dryer that has a bathroom and 2 bedrooms going off of it. The bedrooms are small, but they are pretty nice (altho the bed is kinda hard) and there is a BIG closet. We are all sooooo tired, but I was specifically told (twice) that I was not allowed to sleep until tonight so I will get on Rota time. LAME!
It's really pretty here, even though it's all overcast and rainy. (Who said I didn't need a raincoat?). There are a lot of sunflower fields. Yup. And the internet is pretty far from our rooms, but next time I will try to bring my computer so I can load some pics of my room and stuff.
Yay, the boring blog is over!

Glad you made it safely. Keep us updated and call us when you get the phone working. We love you and miss you already. Dad said the house feels more empty even though you have been gone all year. I guess knowing you're further away and we can't just pop over in a couple hours makes a difference.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you felt right at home on the plane ride over with that background music that I know you just loved!! I'm glad you picked up on those navigational skills that I taught you on our trip to sac (and basically anywhere else) I miss you so much-- and I especially miss coming into your room to be distracted!!! Oh and Alex Hartz says hi. love you!! Hope you're having fun and mingling a lot with the native population!!
ReplyDeletePS-- good job saving the day!!
